Cambridge Rugby to Launch Their New Kit
Beyond the Kit: Celebrating Promotion, Inclusivity, and the Power of the Rugby Family
As proud sponsors, our company is absolutely thrilled to unveil the brand-new club-wide playing kit for Cambridge Rugby Club (CRUFC)! There is an immense amount to celebrate this season—most notably the phenomenal achievements of the Cambridge Women's 1st XV team who fought their way through an undefeated season to earn a spectacular promotion into the NC1 league!
Seeing the squad step onto the pitch at Volac Park in their fresh gear isn't just a proud moment for us as a corporate sponsor. On a deeply personal note, we are also incredibly proud to be individually sponsoring Cambridge back Jaz (Jazz) Reed for the upcoming campaign!
You can check out Jaz Reed’s official re-signing feature right here on Instagram to see her in the team colors. If you want to see what makes this team dynamic so special, you can also watch the CRUFC Player Feature Video on Facebook, where Jazz openly talks about how much she values the incredibly supportive, positive team energy.
Her journey perfectly highlights why rugby is such an excellent sport for those who struggle with aspects of learning and coordination, as there is a position to suit anyone. Whether a player is built for raw power in the scrum or electric speed in the backline, rugby embraces exactly who you are.
1. The Ultimate Cognitive Workout: Learning on the Pitch
Many people view rugby as a purely physical sport, but team sports characterized by dynamic, fast-changing environments require vast mental agility.
Gradual Physical & Mental Growth: Playing rugby will gradually improve your coordination, strength, and fitness. On the pitch, a player must constantly scan the field, read opponents, and calculate passing trajectories in split seconds. This develops visuospatial functions, which translates directly to a better grasp of structural patterns and problem-solving in everyday life.
Boosting Executive Function: Research shows that dynamic ball sports merge high aerobic intensity with real-time decision-making. This specific combination forces the brain to practice cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, and working memory—the exact building blocks of academic and professional learning.
Building Resilience: Rugby teaches players how to handle immediate, constructive feedback from coaches and peers. This builds learning resilience that helps individuals tackle setbacks in school or the workplace rather than giving up.
2. Rugby and SpLD: Where Neurodiversity is a Superpower
An estimated 15% to 20% of the population has a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD). Because of the diverse physical demands and positions of the game, rugby naturally helps individuals with dyslexia, dyspraxia, and ADHD thrive.
Dyspraxia (DCD): Rugby gradually tackles coordination difficulties without judgment. In certain positions (like the forwards), being highly coordinated from day one isn't a dealbreaker. Players can excel by utilizing their mass, driving forward, and throwing themselves into the game.
Dyslexia: The game completely bypasses text-heavy or overly verbal instructions. Instead, rugby relies on multi-sensory tools, high-visibility physical demonstrations, visual signals, and pattern recognition on the field.
ADHD & Sensory Needs: The contact element provides massive "proprioceptive input" (deep muscular pressure). This intense sensory feedback actually helps an ADHD brain ground itself, leaving players feeling incredibly calm, focused, and regulated after a session.
3. The Power of the Rugby Family: Boosting Mental Wellbeing
The physical and cognitive benefits of rugby are deeply reinforced by the distinct culture of the sport itself—a culture the Cambridge Women embody perfectly.
A Support System Like No Other: Rugby team members are like a family—supportive and caring. For an individual who might struggle academically or feel misunderstood in rigid social circles, this tight-knit community provides an immediate, unconditional sense of belonging.
Boosting Mental Wellbeing: The psychological safety of being part of a team significantly improves mental wellbeing. The women’s team's incredible promotion run wasn't just built on fitness; it was built on mutual trust. When a player knows their "family" has their back during a bruising, physical match, it builds a deep, foundational confidence that carries over into their everyday lives.
Looking Ahead in Our New Colors
With the club implementing a unified kit identity for the season, it brings the entire club—from the minis to the senior women's and men's teams—closer together as one single Cambridge Rugby family.
Our company is immensely proud to back a sport that champions diverse minds and diverse bodies. We can't wait to see Jaz and the rest of the Cambridge RUFC Women's team command the field in their new kits as they take on their new challenges in NC1! You can keep up with their latest squad updates, re-signings, and fixtures directly on the official Cambridge Women's Rugby Instagram page.
